Safari park fee calculator

Park fees are charged three ways: per person per day (Kenya’s parks and the Maasai Mara, Ngorongoro entry), per permit (Uganda and Rwanda gorilla and chimp permits) and per vehicle (the Ngorongoro crater fee). This free calculator applies each rule at the rate for your travellers’ category, age and travel dates, and gives a per-line, per-currency and per-person total — with the official source and effective date beside every rate.

1. Travellers

Add one row per group that shares a category and age band. Age decides child rates and permit eligibility.

2 travellers in total. Vehicles are used for per-vehicle fees such as the Ngorongoro crater fee.

2. Park fees and permits

One line per park or permit. Each day is priced on its own date, so a stay that crosses a season boundary is split automatically.

  1. Kenya — Maasai Mara National Reserve · 1 Dec 2026USD 1,200.00
    • 2 × Foreign non-resident, age 35 × 3 days × USD 200.00 (Jul–Dec)USD 1,200.00
    Rules for this fee
    • Seasonal: high season July–December, low season January–June. Each day is priced at the band its date falls in.
    • The Finance Act defines the entry fee as covering 6.00am to 6.00pm, whatever the time of entry — count one fee per day entered.
    • Children 9–17 pay USD 50 (KES 500 in high season, KES 300 in low, for Kenyan citizens); children 8 and under enter free. Other categories have their own rates in the Act — confirm with Narok County.

  2. Tanzania — Ngorongoro Conservation Area · 5 Dec 2026USD 141.60
    • 2 × Foreign non-resident, age 35 × 1 day × USD 70.80USD 141.60
    Rules for this fee
    • A permit is valid for one entry within 24 hours — cost a stay in 24-hour periods.
    • “Resident” here is the NCAA’s expatriate rate: people living or working in Tanzania with valid immigration status. African citizens outside the EAC pay the non-East African rate.

  3. Tanzania — Ngorongoro Conservation Area · 5 Dec 2026USD 295.00
    • 1 × 1 vehicle · Non-East African citizens × 1 trip × USD 295.00USD 295.00

Per vehicle, split across travellers: USD 147.50 each.

    Rules for this fee
    • Charged per vehicle per trip, not per person — its cost per traveller falls as more travellers share the vehicle.

Which rates does the calculator use?

Every figure below is copied from the official source linked with it, and nothing else is in the calculator. Where a source publishes no rate for a category or age, the traveller is left unpriced rather than estimated.

FAQ

Park fee calculator questions

Which parks and permits does the calculator cover?

Kenya’s KWS parks most safaris use (Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Nairobi, Tsavo East and West) and the Maasai Mara; Uganda’s gorilla and chimpanzee permits and the Bwindi / Mgahinga entrance fee; Rwanda’s gorilla permit; and Ngorongoro entry, the crater service fee and motor vehicle permits. Each rate is taken from the official source linked beside it.

Does it convert currencies?

No. Fees are shown in the currency the authority charges — USD, KES, TZS or UGX — with a separate total for each. A mixed group can carry two currencies for one park, and converting would mean picking an exchange rate the authority does not use. Apply your own rate in your costing sheet and state it on the quote.

How does it handle the Maasai Mara season change on 1 July?

Each day is priced on its own date. A non-resident adult pays USD 100 a day from January to June and USD 200 a day from July to December, so a stay from 29 June to 2 July is two low-season days and two high-season days.

Why is the Ngorongoro crater fee shown per person as well?

The NCAA charges the crater service fee per vehicle per trip — USD 295 for non-East African citizens — not per person. The calculator multiplies it by your vehicles and descents, then splits it across the travellers, so you can see how much each client carries at your group size.

Does a Uganda gorilla permit include park entrance?

Yes. UWA’s tariff includes that day’s park entrance in the gorilla permit. If you add a Bwindi / Mgahinga entrance line covering your tracking days, the calculator does not charge entrance again on the days a permit covers.

Why are some travellers marked “not priced”?

Because the official sources we use do not publish a rate for them — for example a KWS child rate, or a Rwanda permit for residents. Rather than guess, the calculator leaves them out of the total and tells you to confirm the fee with the authority.
